Who Is James Mackenzie?!

This is where I talk about how awesome I am.

These days I make music, I record music, and I ocassionally run around with a camera and pretend to be good at capturing good photos.

Actually it’s all a front.. I’m really a farmer with an enormous.. combine harvester.

I got into making music around the age of 11, and I started recording my own bands right away. I was using a 4 track Tascam tape recorder, and it was really good fun.. some of the most fun I’ve ever had recording anything if I’m honest. That was 1998.. and several years and a whole bucket-load of technological advances later, I’m now running, and producing, full time out of SoundShape Studios in Greenock, Scotland. The empire is growing. The force is strong.. etc…

There’s obviously a lot of detail in these past years that I could probably tell you about so that you could have a chance to fake an interest in it, but the bottom line is that it’s all been a fun journey through several bands and alot of hard work and practice in the art of producing and mixing music.

I am currently in the band Tempercalm (among other projects), who has released 1 album and another one is on the way.. I think.. it’s taken a while. I’ve had the good fortune to record some amazing bands, and I hope to continue to do so for a long time to come.

The natural progression from writing and recording my own music was to present it in a shiny package, and that is where my interest in graphic and web design took it’s first steps. Since 2003 I’ve been making everything from CD artwork, t-shirts, posters, flyers, badges, to websites for bands, companies, individuals, and….. well anything really. It’s been a lot of fun and a serious learning experience. Photography attached itself to this and before I knew it, I had bought myself some nice cameras and I was being paid to photograph bands. It’s a fun job, and someone’s gotta do it.

All the other boys were out playing football. I was at home reading about what Depth of Field, ISO, HTML, PHP and CSS are. One’s a band right??

If you have any questions about any of my work, please do get in touch. I’d love to help you out with whatever recording / photography / design project you have in mind.

Let’s party!

Oh yeah, you can also get me at the following social networky thingys…
